Commercial follow-up

Make the next step clear before a deal loses momentum.

Give your team a shared standard for next steps, close dates and opportunity reviews in HubSpot.

Start with one process

What makes the work harder

The pipeline review becomes a round of asking what happened. A populated field may still say only “follow up,” and a close date may stay unchanged after the customer’s plans have shifted.

Agree on a practical standard

For each active opportunity, agree on the next action with the customer, name the person responsible and record a realistic date. Define the stages where this information is needed and how to handle a customer who has not replied.

How to support it with HubCoach

  1. Create a process for the opportunity stages your team wants to review.
  2. Map checks to actual HubSpot properties, such as an empty Next step or an overdue Close date.
  3. Attach a short guide with a useful example and an exception. Review the record with the representative before publishing to a pilot group.

What still needs your team’s judgment

An empty-value rule does not judge the quality of a next step. The team must agree on the action and confirm changes with the customer; the extension does not make that decision.

What to review in a pilot

Review a sample of active deals before and after the pilot: does each next step contain a useful action, owner and date? Track repeated exceptions as well as missing values. These are suggested pilot checks, not an automatic product score.

Start with a case your team can review

Choose one process, a small audience and an actual record. Review the guidance with the person doing the work, publish when it is ready, and revisit the exceptions. Reading a guide or checking a step does not by itself demonstrate sustained adoption.
