Can I use WhatsApp with HubSpot Starter?
No. WhatsApp requires Marketing Hub or Service Hub Professional or Enterprise. With Starter you would need to upgrade one of those hubs.
It has three costs: the HubSpot subscription that enables the channel (Marketing Hub or Service Hub Professional or Enterprise), the messages Meta charges by category and customer country, and the work of leaving it connected and recorded. Those subscriptions include up to 1,000 template messages a month and HubSpot sells additional blocks. It pays off when the customer starts the conversation: in Chile and Latin America, replying inside the 24-hour window costs less than reaching out with templates.
| Cost | How it is calculated |
|---|---|
| HubSpot subscription | Marketing Hub or Service Hub Professional or Enterprise. Starter does not include WhatsApp. |
| Template messages | Up to 1,000 a month included; above that, additional HubSpot blocks. |
| Service replies | Since October 2026, Meta charges after the first 1,000 per number each month. |
| Integration | One time: number, templates, assignment rules, records and alert. |
The channel connects to the conversations inbox with Marketing Hub or Service Hub Professional or Enterprise, and to the help desk with Service Hub Professional or Enterprise. Starter does not include it. You set it up in Settings > WhatsApp > Connect a WhatsApp phone number, with admin rights in your company's Meta Business Manager.
The number cannot be connected to another WhatsApp account, the WhatsApp Business app or another integration, unless you use coexistence: on Professional and Enterprise, the same number keeps working in the app and in HubSpot, and 180 days of history are imported.
HubSpot includes up to 1,000 template messages a month in those subscriptions, shared across all connected numbers. The counter resets on your subscription start day. If you hit the limit, templates stop sending until the reset; to send more, HubSpot sells increases in blocks of 1,000 messages.
Meta charges per delivered message, based on the category and the recipient's country code. Chile has its own rate and is not part of the Rest of Latin America group. The categories are marketing, utility and authentication for templates, and service for replies written by a person or a third-party AI agent.
Since October 1, 2026, Meta charges again for service messages, free since November 2024, at the same utility and authentication rate of each country. Every business phone number gets 1,000 free service messages a month, which do not roll over. Utility templates sent inside an open service window are now charged too.
The 24-hour window opens with every customer message: inside it you reply with free text; outside it, only with approved templates. If the customer arrives from a click-to-WhatsApp ad and you reply in time, a free entry point window of up to 7 days opens. Before signing, confirm with HubSpot how Meta charges show up in your account.
When the customer starts the conversation: inquiries, quotes, bookings and support. You reply inside the window, use the 1,000 free service messages of each number first, and the conversation is recorded on the contact and, when relevant, on the deal or the ticket.
It is worth less for mass campaigns: every marketing template is charged, counts toward HubSpot's monthly limit and requires consent. Meta also limits how many people you can message outside the window in 24 hours: a new portfolio starts at 250 and rises to 2,000 once the business is verified. In Chile and Latin America, the costliest mistake is using WhatsApp like mass email.
Six steps with your own volumes, before connecting the number.
Count one month: how many conversations the customer opens and how many your team opens with a new message. The first are answered in the window; the second need templates.
Marketing for promotions, utility for confirmations and order status, authentication for access codes.
If you send more than 1,000 templates a month across all your numbers, budget additional blocks or lower the volume.
For each number, the first 1,000 of the month are free. Above that, Meta charges the utility rate of the customer's country, Chile included.
Sending from HubSpot workflows requires verifiable opt-in, with WhatsApp subscription types for marketing and for transactional messages.
Assignment rules by team, templates approved in Meta's WhatsApp Manager and an alert if the channel stops recording.

Using WhatsApp like mass email: marketing templates to the whole base, without consent and without measuring replies.
Paying for the channel in HubSpot and still replying from each salesperson's phone.
Not watching the template limit and finding out when reminders stop going out.
Utility templates with promotions that Meta approves and charges as marketing.

Before connecting anything we review your volume, who starts the conversations and which tool you pay for today. We leave the number connected, templates approved, assignment rules set and an alert if the channel stops recording. We have already done it for a logistics company.

Yes, with coexistence on Professional or Enterprise: the number stays in the app and in HubSpot. Templates, however, are sent only from HubSpot.
To connect the number you need admin rights in Meta Business Manager. Verifying the business also raises your sending limit outside the window.
Yes. Every conversation is kept in the inbox and on the contact record, and you can associate it with the deal or the ticket. A standard connection does not bring earlier history; coexistence imports 180 days.
